Spelling Bee is a spelling contest organized by Collins Elementary PTA for students in grades 3 to 5. The Spelling Bee Chair coordinates with the school staff to register the school with Scripps National Spelling Bee. Without volunteers and staff involvement, we cannot hold the Spelling Bee.
PTA is excited to announce that the annual Spelling Bee is back this year!
Open to Collins students in grades 3-5.
2023-24 Spelling Bee Registration CLOSED
After registration, all communication will be via email to the parents. Similar to previous years, the first round written test will also include a vocabulary test in a multiple choice format.
Specific rules along with the study materials will be shared with the registrants.
The winner of this next level Bee held by the sponsor(s) will be able to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Registration and other pertinent information will be communicated either via the school newsletter, WhatsApp class group, the PTA website, and/or Facebook page.

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION 2023-24
Spelling Bee Registration CLOSED
Round One of the Bee is open to all students in grades 3-5 who are registered by the deadline. This is a written round that takes approximately 30 minutes. Round One is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Students who are late will not be permitted to participate.
Round Two is open to only the top 20 spellers from Round One. Round Two is a single elimination verbal round. Participants are given the word, its origin, the part of speech, its meaning, and a sentence in which the word is used. Any of this information may be repeated for the participant. The winner of Round Two is the Collins Elementary School Spelling Bee Champion! Round Two is scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, January 22, 2024.
** Note: Because Spelling Bee volunteers have direct contact with students, all volunteers must be TB tested and fingerprinted and cleared prior to volunteering. Information can be found at the district website.
